The Cross Project

Sport is a metaphor of life: it is a driving force of social inclusion for all young people, regardless of their ethnic origin, nationality, religion or economic status. Sport unites everyone who practice it, encouraging the creation of friendships, connections, networks. Thanks to sport practice, children, as well as adults, learn what it means to play in a team, what are the rules of healthy competition among athletes, solidarity with the partner and the adversary in difficulty. Despite the importance of its educational role, sport practice can easily become the place where fights, racism and discrimination take over, both in the field and outside.

CROSS therefore aims at promoting a new vision of soccer and sport, based on cooperation and tolerance. The soccer field becomes an integrated community: an example of mutual respect and cultural diversity. Calciosociale is in fact a new type of soccer: open to everyone and based on rules deliberately reinterpreted, out of common logic and of extraordinary social impact. This methodology transforms soccer into a life training, where integration takes place when disadvantaged people come into direct contact with able-bodied people.

Specific goals of the project:

  • Spreading the “calcio sociale” (social soccer) methodology, to promote it – both inside and outside sports organizations – as a means for inclusion.
  • Understanding how this methodology can have a positive influence on different human dimensions, understanding whether participation in this form of sport can facilitate inclusion and integration, overcoming gender, age and religion barriers.
  • The project will take place over a period of 5 months during which people between the ages of 11 and 70 will play together and experiment “social soccer” at a European level.

  •  First Tournament: 19. + 24. March 2019 (Group 1 + Group 2)
  • 6 Teams x 10 players (8 + 2 substitutes)
  • Second Tournament: May 2019

Activities outside the pitch (parallel with both Tournaments)

  • Retake: environmental protection and recovery of spaces and public goods that are in state of decay
  • Awarness in the school
  • 90° Thought: weekly experience of reflection and sharing (topic: Charter of Fundamental Rights of EU)

Workshop #BEACTIVE #BEINCLUSIVE

At the end of the Social Soccer Tournaments, there will be a workshop about the importance of sport as a tool for social inclusion. The workshop will be an important mean of raising awareness on the theme of sport and its dual role: tool that can improve the health and universal language that can promote the inclusion and integration between different cultures.
